 Description of Honeymoon Bay

Owned by Les French, this campground is operated by the family's rather large local family. Very basic facilities are available and fees apply. Visitors arriving with their own boat will find access to the water is also basic but the available bounties must be worth it because this spot is very popular for fishing and people continue to come back year after year. Various tours, such as fishing & crabbing are also available for visitors without their own boat. It is best to pre-book these if possible, or enquire on arrival for the next available tour as they fill fast.

This camp is the furthest from the Kalumburu township via tracks which are a bit narrow, sandy and slow - expect it to take about 35minutes to reach Honeymoon Bay.

Visitors arriving in Kalumburu can purchase their permit at Honeymoon Bay if unable to get one from the community in town.

There are two camping areas at Honeymoon Bay - one at the top of the hill near the unisex toilet/shower facilities (no view of bay), or down the hill where there are limited sites on the sandy beach.

The "shed" is a favourite with regulars and suits those who have a boat and a big group. There is a makeshift bush shower, a roof and 4 walls, but open on all sides. It provides good shelter on hot days and would help keep fridges cool. It’s obviously long been a landmark of a Honeymoon Bay and holds an interesting anthology of past visitors who have signed their name or created a bit of “shed art” – similar to the shed at Captain Billy’s Landing on Cape York.
