Hello again,

I can probably afford to but 2 out of 3 of the above, getting the third later on in the year. They are all around the $1100 mark. What is peoples' opinion on priory. My car so far, is a 3.0L TD Man Surf with dual batteries, an ARB winch bar and a snorkel. Love the 4WDriving and do it as much as possible, out of Sydney.

I have the choice of a Reconditioned 9500 Warn Winch, a Magellan GPS or a Fridge..... either the 40L Engel or the 60L Waeco (thats another Forum question).

Just curious to see how the rest of Australia would do it ?

1. Fridge
2. GPS
3. Winch (if you really need it)

Sandman nailed it.

PLEASE do us a favour and do a thorough archive search before you post your separate question (E vs W).

Cheers,

Matt.

Same same,

I have 1 & 2 and have never needed 3 yet. I have used the shovel and jack a few times, but only felt the need for a winch once, but a sit down and think solved the problem in another way.

I have had a fridge since day 1, love its work. Will get a GPS soon-ish, but isn't it funny how we've got by without them up till now? A winch is also on my shopping list but I have still yet to come even close to getting stuck - perhaps I should go 4wding more often?

Cheers and beers

Hi Bean

I'm a driver , so winch first for me , then a GPS which If I use it right may reduce the need for a winch - or is that guarantee that I will need the winch ?

Fridge , way down the list like an air conditioner - I never knew I needed those things for the first 45 years of life. After all with the window down you can't even here the $7.50 polystrene esky squeaking.

If you buy a Waeco instead of an Engel you can probably afford all three?

Winch
GPS
Fridge would be my order.

Fortunately I've got all three and use the GPS and the fridge far more than the winch but the winch will be the one most likely to get me out of the poo if the need arises.

It all depends on your individual needs, I like to play on steep rocky tracks and in mud and stuff so the winch has obvious benefits. For camping trips that involve some 4wding a fridhge would be the first choice, for remote touring a GPS is invaluable but should always be backed up with paper maps and a compass.

I agree with everything that every one has said..... meaning I still have to think more. I know the golden rule of 4WDriving is to not do it alone but most of my friends are busy on the days I have off (I do shift work). Therefore it would be nice to pack the car, the wife, and the 5day eski (hence my reason for probably not getting a fridge straight away) and going bush, knowing that I have some security of getting unstuck if I am by myself...... I too love mud and rocky tracks.

Im thinking the GPS will win out above the fridge too, because I am a gadget man.... gotta have the latest..... and gotta have the most features !!! ... and I love planning trips away for us and my friends too. Just cant decide between the Magellan Explorist 600 and the XL, but I think I am swaying towards the XL, because of the screen size. I have a compass, I can tell if its too hot or cold by how much beer I drink, and if its raining or going to rain (barometer feature) I know there will be mud around.
