This one is O/T- but with the wealth of info here, I'm sure I'll get an answer..
OK, I have an ancient Toshiba Satellite Lappy that spends all it's life on 240v AC power. The 'Power Management' always default to 'Laptop'- which means it shuts down every 10 mins or so.
I have tried to put a custom profile in with a 'Never' shutdown- but on rebooting it reverts to the default !!
Anyone come across this?? Any further info required for a resolution??
Thanks

Only two places I can think of where you could adjust the settings.

Either in Windows - Control Panel - Power Options, where you should be able to change from "Laptop" to "Always On" and then click "apply".......(I assume it runs an earlier version of Windows (98?) but should be similar process to XP)

or the Laptop's BIOS settings:-

The Laptop's BIOS settings are accessed during bootup by pressing F1 or F8, or another function button, depending on the Brand/Vintage of the Laptop.

Have a look in "TSETUP". Its accessed by pressing ESC during startup. See if there are any options in there.

I access the power options on my old Tosh by right clicking anywhere in the background, and go to "Properties". Then click Screen Saver and have the following settings for mapping:
Screen Saver - None
Energy Saving Features of this monitor: Plugged in I select "Never" for all 3 boxes
Then press "OK" (and not "apply")for each of the screens so the new settings stick.
I'm guessing you've done exactly the same :-((

If none of that worked, I'd reformat the computer.

"Does the screen turn off when you close the puter ??"

In the "power management properties" screen, click on the "advanced" tab and you'll find all the choices there.Mine is set to turn teh screen off when folded, so the computer keeps running.
