We are looking to purchase a duel axle pop top off road van around 15' to 16' but was wanting some information as to the best/preferred independent suspension. As there has been many topics and views on the best vans I do not want to go down that track, just want opinion on suspension as I feel this is the most important part of an off road van. Cheers

"As there has been many topics and views on the best vans I do not want to go down that track'

Not much good having a great suspension if the van isnt built to the conditions as well.

Sugarglider seems popular as does Simplicity.

Have a look at Trackmaster, Spinifex and Phoenix vans to see what they use as they are reputed to be the better offroad vans

Sugarglider is the go

Can handle anything, but the question you need to ask is can the van handle the conditions too ?

We have a Supreme Getaway & it has sugarglider independent suspension under it and it has been fantastic on all road surfaces. Just remember to adjust your tyre pressures to suit the road surface and also adjust your speed as well. We have found these 2 factors as important as the suspension set-up you have.

Agree, impossible to discuss suspension without mention of type of camper.

Personally I belive the MC2 Asymmetric Link suspension by Track (TVan) to be the absolute beez knees of trailer suspension.

I very much appreciate your replys. I look at it from the other way, hence the query, ie it does not matter how good the van is if the suspension is rubbish then the result will be the same.

Trailing arm (Sugar glider) coil/shocker works ok on our Evernew van. Been most places one wants to take a van ie Cape York, Gibb River, Mt Dare, Outback H'way etc... no dramas, new bushes/shockers at 95000km, now done 140,000km still going strong. We leave things like set top boxes, electric jug etc. on benches as we travel even on the most corrugated roads only had stuff move once and that was when shocker was shot.

You have a problem :-o).......various manufacturers of quality trailers and vans etc. choose from various types of offroad suspension - all of them seemingly respected performers over many years. Some are simple and others complex, but it may be that among the mainstream designs, there are no bad ones ! I've only had 1. trailing arm coil and shocker 2. Trailing arm air bag and shocker ..... both have been very good to me over 7 years (the latter... 'to date' :-o). ........I'll stick with trailing arm in future - makes sense to my thinking.

Hi. I think you would be hard pressed to find an off road van of that size with dual axle suspension. The best for up to 16ft would be trailing arm, air bag, adjustable shock absorbers and single axle. Have a look at "vehicle components" website. Cheers,Bob
