I am about to buy a generator to use on my caravan when we go and stay at our scrub block. Will a Honda 2kVA EU20i run a 3.0 Heron air conditioner with no over heating problems in the summer.
Or will I be better going to a Yamaha 2.4 kVA inverter generator, which is about 11 kg. heavier. The weight is no problem as we would not be taking it on trips.

Regards Nick

Hi Nickywoop --------- What does the "3.0" mean on your A/C --------- If it means 3000 watts then your 2kva generator puts out 2000watts and therefore won't be big enough ---------- You need to determine how many watts your A/c is ----- It should be marked on a plate usually with the serial no. etc.

On the net this link
link to heron 3.0

it takes you to the spec below which looks like its 3200 watts so your Honda 2 wont do it by the look of things.

Looks like you will need quite a large generator.

Heating for the Heron 3.0 = 1500 Watts
Cooling : : : 3.0 =1600 Watts.

Yes a Honda EU20i will run the air con.

I tried this Generator on mine and it ran it OK. The temp at the time was however only 30% C. The generator was my mates and it was working very hard so that is why I purchased a 2.6kva Genny.
Note that the Honda EU20i is rated to a continuous rating of 1600 Watts.
My 2.6kva is rated at 2000Watts continuous.

Hope this helps.

I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Thanks for that Dodg,

Well looking at the figures you have up there, the Yamaha 2.4 should handle it without being worked to the max all the time.
Has anybody tried a Yammy 2.4 on a Heron 3 ?

Hi Nick, I have owned both the yamaha and the Honda. Both generators will run the heron 3 with no problems but everything else needs to be turned off at the power point, including your inbuilt battery charger. I had the yamaha for 5 years before the inverter in it died. Wasn't worth fixing for $1200 or more so I bought the Honda and hoping for a longer life span out of this.

The 2.4kva model. The big cumbersome thing. After having both gennies the Honda is so much more user friendly.

The Yamaha EF2400iS is the superior option if you can afford the extra weight. The Yamaha is a heavy duty more industrial type unit, quieter and uses less fuel.
Main issue with the Honda EU20i they WILL NOT work over 40C at high loads and the hand book is very specific about stating that fact. If you want reliable cooling in summer heat, the Yamaha EF2400iS is the only choice.

Toss the aircondition buy a 240 volt fan, uses about 40 watts, run it off an inverter, forgot to add open the windows.

I have a Honda EU20i and it runs my Heron Q in a Coromal 541 Poptop. It will not run it when the honda ECO throttle is on.
