UHF Repeaters

Submitted: Wednesday, Jan 02, 2008 at 12:12

Coolman

All,

I have a GME UHF 4400 I think, the remote head unit in my car (located in Brisbane). Is there a trick the repearter stations? The only one which seems to work is Channel 7 but always people talking on it. I have Duplex set on.

Basically I want to be able to talk to a buddy on the other side of brisbane via UHF and repeaters. Any idea??

UHF CB Repeaters are less than useless for any meaningful conversation in the city. There are simply too many empty-heads playing music, swearing at each other and talking dribble.

So for that purpose you can forget it, unless you wantr to try to compete with the above. There are other communications solutions that will allow you to talk over this distance, but at what price? Mobile phone would be your best and cheapest bet.

I rarely ever use the CB channels in my set around the city... country people seem much less idiotic about the use of these devices and many of the repeaters out there are eminently useable without all the cr@p...

I have a mate who lives on the other side of the city to me and I chat with him on HF radio......works brilliantly most of the time and I can selcall him when I feel like it...no drongos.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Mark

Coolman,

The GME 4400 does not have a removable head to my knowledge.

Must be a 3400 or the newer 3420.

No trick to the repeater stations. You transmit on one channel (1 through 8) and receive on the equivalent channel (31 through 38)

Channel 5 is reserved for emergency use.

Generally, repeater stations are set up in different areas. The one (channel 7) you can pick up is probably the one closest to your location and the reason why it is always in use.

Too many wankers in the metro areas.
As far as using any channel in the metro area, good luck.
I don't even bother.

WAV02 Wavel Heights has been down for the past month, it is often less busy than VHQ07 (Mt Glorious) so give that a try when it comes back from repair.
