The Yorke Peninsula trek note is a round trip beginning and ending at Port Pirie and taking in a total distance of around 774kms. There are many ports and towns along the way including: Port Victoria, Port Moorowie, , Port Vincent and the towns of Edithburgh and Ardrossan. There is plenty of things to do along the way and if you are into surfing, swimming, fishing and diving and beautiful bays and beaches, then the long drive is well worth it.

The highlight of the trip is definitely the Innes National Park. This is where the Yorke Peninsula's real attraction begins and as you head around the end of the peninsula, the coast becomes very scenic and lined by cliffs which have claimed a fair share of its own shipwrecks. Be sure to check out the numerous salt lakes and the historic Inneston township as you head further into the park.

Within the Innes National Park there are a number of camp sites. Pondalowie Bay is the biggest campsite in the park and has showers and is situated just near a bay of the same name with a fantastic sheltered beach. A lot of people are drawn to Innes National Park for its excellent surf and the break from in front of the Surfers Campground (aptly named) is pretty popular and deservedly so. From the Surfers Campground, it’s another 6kms to Dolphin and Shell Beach (both with excellent swimming) and Browns Beach is a beautiful spot and good for snorkelling. It’s worth a 2-3 day stay in the park to see everything that it has to offer.

Four Great Days on the Yorke Peninsula
The weeks leading up to the January 2013 Australia Day Long Weekend were nothing but tortious, with the temperature topping 49° C for a few days in a row here in Clare, then followed by a “Cool” change when the temperature went down to a balmy 38°C to 40°C. The long range forecast was cooler weather, but how cool it would be we would have to wait and see. The seven day forecast even showed the possibility of rain,
A few days off over Christmas.... Part1. The Beach
With my lovely lady here from Malaysia for Christmas and New Year and a few days off it was time to hit the roads and tracks for some much deserved R&R and lots of photography. Christmas Morning had the dreaded alarm going off at 4am but this time we didn't mind as it was for a great couple of days over in the Innes National Park on Yorke Peninsula some 300 Kilometers from Adelaide. So with full tanks we set forth...
Australia Day 2012 at Moonta
Seeing that we only had the Australia Day Public Holiday off of work, we decided to make the most of this special day and perfect weather conditions and made an early start and headed over to Moonta on the Yorke Peninsula of South Australia, a comfortable drive of around 80 minutes from our home in Clare. Being in no hurry, we stopped a number of times for photos along the way, with our first stop only a very short distance out of Clare in Armagh at the site of the old Creasey’s Brick Kiln.
On Our Way to WA Day 2
A lovely drive from the Barossa Valley to Port Broughton. Our navigator took us along rural roads to Hamley Bridge, Owen, and Balaklava before arriving in Port Wakefield. Then onto the north part of the Yorke Peninsula, via Bute, to Port Broughton. This is a beautifully peaceful spot, right on a beach, with great amenities and a solar heated swimming pool. On the down side, we joined the ranks of road killers when we ran over a brown skink. we hope it didn't suffer!
Rob & Jo's Oz trip Blog 14 - Sth Eastern SA
Saturday 30th October – Thursday 4th November 2010 We awoke to a blustery cold morning at Stenhouse Bay camp ground in Innes National Park. Predicted maximum was 16 degrees – brrrr! We went off and explored several of the bays in the park such as Jolly’s, Pondalowie, Shell & Brown Beach. The most beautiful was Dolphin Bay which was totally sheltered from the wind and with orange tinged boulders and brilliant white sand. It is very similar to Meelup Beach in WA.
Rob & Jo's Oz trip Blog 13 - Central SA
Sunday 17th – Wednesday 20th October 2010 Drove toward Flinders Ranges National Park in beautiful scenery. On the drive there were emus here, emus there, emus everywhere. At least 60 of them including all the chicks. Some crossing the road so luckily the cars were going slow. When we got to the National Park the road into Brachina Gorge was closed from the rain. We found a great spot where we had loads of space – it was more than 5 mins walk to the loos and showers so we
Brief summary of our Big Lap in 2009
The Big Lap 2009 While my Blogs are not yet complete, here is a very brief summary of our 2009 trip from WA through the Northern Territory, Queensland, and returning via New South Wales, crossing the north west corner only of Victoria and on through South Australia. We took five months; most in the earlier states as time got away from us. This trip and my other travelogues in more detail are being progressively loaded onto Travelogues on Australia So Much to See as they are completed.
