The 9555 has been around for about 4 years. Before that was the 9505A and before that was the 9505 and the 9500 came out first.

The 9505 and 9505A are identical except for the charger and lugs on the battery.

The 9555 was the first to have T9 text.

The 9505 and the 9505A are not identical. Apart from the battery change there are relatively minor functional differences and significant hardware differences particularly the external connectors.

In regard to the battery, they are functionally and connectively different and the lug realignment was to prevent interchangeability. Some people have proposed simply removing the battery case lugs to allow interchange but the battery contains a circuit function board of entirely different design and the phones lose battery management functions if interchanged. Believe me, I have been "inside".
