Hi guys,I have a jayco swan outback and on a couple of camps have noticed swaying of the roof section in windy conditions, the hollow steel risers that support the roof could easily bend if a gust came thru,my question is has anyone designed or found an internal stabilizer to beef up these risers in a triangular bracing form, any comments appreciated, regs,Mike

the linked item has Specifications :
•Closed 335mm.
•Opened 560mm.
Might be suitable for a pop-top, but can't see them working for a wind-up.
I carry 4 bits of pine (would need to measure but maybe 40x20mm cross section) cut to the correct length that fits beside the riser (on the outside). Have put them up on a couple of real windy nights.
They did come in handy one night when a fellow camper was attempting to raise their roof and the winch failed. We lifted the roof in stages and jambed these in to keep it up so they could sleep in it.

Maybe some additional gas struts with removable connections - so they can be removed or laid down when not needed?
Just thinking out loud.....

Thanks to all who have replied, the issue as I see it, is not in the capability of vertical support by the risers but in side winds the roof leans over far more than ideal, the risers are only thin hollow steel section and may bend causing all number of probs getting the roof back down, hence some sort of triangular brace bar to do the job

or get 4 sturdy tent pegs, for tent or awning ropes, and run them diagonally out from the 4 corners of the roof ???

Our Hawk came with 2 supports that go next to the risers when up, we brought 2 more and now put one on each corner, they are just 20mm light steel poles with rubber feet on them.

The poles that come with the camper are to be put up as a safety measure in case the roof drops without warning.
When we got Jayco to install our new Fiamma awning, they installed 2 small eyelets on the other side so you could tie down the camper from the "off" side and counter the pull from the awning. Interestingly, we have a Fiamma awning on the new OB but there are no eyelets put on. Both were installed by Jayco dealers (different ones).

Hi Mike , know exactly what your talking about, had Jayco Dove, same but shorter..also when you put awning or annexe out pulls side ways a bit.....I screwed ss saddle to 4 corners of roof into thick side material, then on windy camps anchored these to ground pegs, strong ones, with no spring, just adjust till riser tubes are straight Mark from
Ballina....now got Expanda.

I had a golf camper for many years, had similar concerns in the flinders rangers and
cook town, the van was really rocking, but no damage at all. They do have some lateral movement
in the wind, just relax. The wind in the flinders was actually lifting the bed end of my brother camper trailer off the ground with the kids on it! Many caravans and campers packed up in the middle of the gift and left...we just rode it out.
