With interchange arrangements these days, you can use any ATM and most supermarkets have EFTPOS with cashout facilities. Just check around for a Bank that doesn't charge you for using another Banks ATM (some credit unions I think). My choice though would be to stick with one of the BIG 4 & pay their fees as you need the cash. At least they have good internet & telephone banking arrangements if you get stuck.Here's Mud in your Tyre

Mate, you're spot on; but I must declare a vested interest; I've been working for one of the Big 4 for the past 33+ years. Once you leave home, it doesn't matter diddly which shop you go to pretty much, you can get cash out at most remote places. Don't forget, places like Innaminka' Trading Post and Pub are the ONLY place the locals can get cash too.
Myself, I use credit card for 99% of all purchases and then make sure I either have the cash loaded into it before I go, so I'm using my own money, OR I make sure I pay the whole bloody lot off before the due date, so I don't pay any interest. However, don't get a cash advance on your credit card if you can avoid it as interest charges kick in straight away.
