Hi all,

At very late notice I've been offered a weeks leave Jan 6th-13th.
Sadly, "mum" has been rostered on to work that week (pardon the sarcasm!)
So I've got the kids to myself & rather than sitting at home was thinking of heading down the Great Ocean Road to re-visit many of the places I surfed 20+ years ago.

Can any of our readers advise what the above mentioned camping ground is like & whether it's busy or not this time of year? We'll only be roughing it for a day or two with just the car & a 3-man tent (& esky) so we won't need much space.

Please advise.

It's pretty busy at the best of times, unfortunately there are very few good camping spots in and around the otways due to them being blocked off.

I went there 12 months ago and wouldn't go back. Apart from the crowds and rubbish, the mossies / sand flies were out of control.

If you get in early, down at Blanket Bay / Cape Otway would be nicer.

Aire R E & W can be nice if you can find a spot.

Options in that area, trawl through: http://parkweb.vic.gov.au/

You're flexible, you'll find something.

Aire river west is bigger and IMHO nicer. There is also Johanna beach. Anywhere along the coast will be busy at that time, I think Blanket Bay may have a ballot for that period. If there is no room and you don't mind an inland site, you could try Dando's campground between Forrest and Gellibrand that has several dozen shady sites on the Gellibrand river.

Thanks guys,
Have followed up both Dando's Campground & Stevenson Falls as viable options if a coastal spot in unavailable. Both will suffice in need as you've suggested.
It appears Princetown Rec Reserve is as good a spot as any. Nothing flash but central to tourist spots, close to the beach & from what I can see we should find a patch of grass to pitch a tent.
Thanks for your responses, they're very much appreciated.
