Wonnagatta Cattle trial Back on.

Isn't it exciting , recently there have been some fascinating reports on all sorts of subjects, from second hand smoking issues have been way
overblown to people not taking prescriptions because of costs, today it was meat & cheese consumption in your 50's and 60's can be as bad as smoking and then the exciting news that a 3 year cattle grazing trial in the High Country will be held beginning with 60 in the Wonnangatta, a mecca for 4wder's.

With luck I will be near there in 36 hours - does anybody know if its actually started and maybe we can look forward to some cattle grazing this weekend.

Great news if it is correct Robin.

If it is the case the cattle would already be up there as they go up late December and come back down early April. I would be surprised if you see them as 60 head is not many for an area the size of the Wonnangatta.

Enjoy your trip in there.

Yeah , would be hard to see Dazza, according to todays paper there will be more later.

I might run out of time as I'm doing a day trip only with real target to get into Bryces gorge.

Once I was in there and the grass was taller than the car and as I got to about 100m from the river all of a sudden around the corner came a tractor pulling a slasher.

Got such a surprise, he took it up to the rivers edge and ran up/down a couple of times.

We thanked him for making such a nice campsite for us and then it disappeared into the long grass.

Never saw it or what brought it in again , so it would be easy to miss a few cows.

Interesting Robin,

Have you been in there before? It's about a 500m drop to the bottom or more appropriately 500m back up.

I have been wanting to go in there and see the falls but usaully drive past on my way to Zeka Spur track.

Yes I have BooBook

Its not so far down to the pieman falls though , we used to go across the bog up the top before there was any path - one of few such places it was easier to walk than ride.

Should be pretty easy now though and probably little water over those falls.

The falls at the other end were easier to get down but a bigger walk in.

Will be coming in from top end past zekka - will we cross your path this weekend ?

Robin, my sources tell me their is some fresh fire activity on the Dargo High Plains Road. The CFA & Emergency websites seem to contradict each other as to its status however it appears to be around Dalmore Road near Dargo. Long way from where you are going I know but worth further inquiry.

Ok Dazza will keep a check on fires.

Will watch for great wall Bigden.

I will be in white GU with blue on the wheels as just an hour ago my new set of ST-Maxx's arrived and are now on the car.

Bit rich complaining before the trial, isn't it Bigden.

I'd listen more to someone who made serious observations , but only on the results , not canning it up front.

it was someone from parks vic on talkback, saying all the trials etc were done 30 years ago .then every one else joined in. i am not sure how i feel about cattle in the high country but they certainly are an iconic part of our history. lower areas like the wonnangatta certainly shouldnt be affected by cattle

The quicker they dump this stupid "trial", the better. Cattle do not belong in National parks. Period.

Cheers,

The best thing about this trial is that it pisses the Greens off.
Anything that upsets their little green apple cart can only be good!
