Hi everyone,
Assuming the wet season has not made too much difference to the roads, will we be able to tow our Topaz van up the bypass roads to Cape York? It is on the same suspension as a t-van and we are towing with a troopie. It is a heavy rig but pretty bulletproof.
We are not even considering the Old Telegraph track before you ask! We will of course check road conditions before we leave Cooktown and we are experienced travellers off road.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Cheers
Anni

Hi Anni

We towed our Quantum up to the Cape about 18 months ago. Assuming you get recent road information, you should be fine. We did let a little air out of both car and camper - which seemed to help. We checked out some of the OTT first (minus the camper) - and then used the bypass road for the bits we wanted to bypass. To get into Twin Falls, you need to head up the OTT for a bit, but again, you should have no problems provided you take it easy! It was great fun.

Cheers

Chris

You haven't said when you plan to be up there, but as it stands at the present, the PDR is open with a 5t GVM limit, as I said in a previous post, the road is slushy north of Coen and Hann River R/H, but should not pose any problems for you.
Be wary of some of the dips, and generally drive to the side of them, work crews are out so also take care around them, you will easily find what channel the using, and what their up to.
Cheers and drive safe.

Thanks TonyF8,
Sorry I meant to say that we will be up there in early June. We are in no hurry so we can take it gently. Thank you for your advice.
Cheers
