G`day,
I went camping last week and when I attempted to erect the awning some of the adjustable poles would not lock.
The type of pole is the two piece aluminum ones with a nylon "cam lock" on the end of the inner piece that locks against the inner wall of the larger tube when the two pieces are twisted.
I bought these poles a few years back because they are very light weight and they also bundle together neatly as there are no protrusions to catch on others when removing them from the pole carrier tube on the van.
They were ok last time I used them, twelve months ago, and now they won`t grip.
Does anyone know how to fix them or if the "cam lock" piece is replaceable, if so from where.

Thanks

Scrubby

Are the poles smooth or fluted?
If they are fluted (grooved) they are Supapeg poles & parts won't be a problem.
You can also try pulling them apart & slightly roughening the cam.

G`day Shaker,
The poles are smooth. I have tried roughing the cam up with emery strip. I have also tried washing the inside with thinners.

Thanks for your reply,

Scrubby.

With Shaker on this one..... the Supapeg poles are the ducks guts - never had any problem, might cost a tad more, but in the end - they work!

Scrubby, on my ARB awning, the upright poles won't lock in if they are vertical, however if Ilock them in while still horizontal, they lock in fine. I can adjust the height OK when they are in the vertical position just not when I first extend them.
Cheers

G'day Scrubby,
I wrapped some insulation tape around the cam to make it a tighter fit, seemed to work okay.

If you use Google you will find replacement cam ends,
I found some a couple of years ago.
