Heading south from Alice in 3 wks and want somewhere safe to leave van to travel in 4wd ute to stay at
Dalhousie springs. Is Cooper Pedy our best option and travel nth via
Painted Desert.
By third week in June would we need to book into
Dalhousie springs campground?
Had thought about travelling from the nth thru Finke mt dare to Dalhousie but have limited sand driving experience.
Any other suggestions?

Ian,
The roads out there are all dirt formed, with a bit of sand &
rock thrown in for variety.
Talk to the caravan parks at
Coober Pedy (Oasis or Stuarts Range) they will probably store the van for a fee.
Keep an eye on the weather as rain will shut the roads pretty quickly, (call Mt Dare).
It will be busy at
Dalhousie Springs, but if its full then you can
camp at
3 O'clock Creek, Mt Dare or
Eringa Waterhole (my preference).
Drop your tyre pressures & keep the speed down & you wont have any problems.

Presuming you want the van to stay on the seal, either
Kulgera Roadhouse or
Marla Roadhouse could be the go - they both have caravan parks adjacent (
Marla's van park is the larger larger and busier as I recall)........

Ian, Kathleen,
About 4 years ago I left my van at
Cadney Park RH. Had booked in for the night & when I asked about the couple of days storage Management were only too happy to let me leave my van by the staff donga FOC. Maybe worth checking out.
The following year the couple of parks that I contacted in
Coober Pedy wanted the normal day rate & I left the van in
Port Augusta while I Did the Anne Beadell Hwy.
Hope this helps.
Mike.
