If anyone is travelling the
Savannah Way between
Roper Bar and
Borroloola, do yourself a favour and call into
Lorella Springs.
We planned a couple of nights and ended up staying for six - could have hung around for weeks.
A million sq km of fantastic rivers, gorges, hot springs and freedom to
camp anywhere you like - and a really laid back atmosphere. Some great 4Wdriving on tracks all over the property too.
Can't recommend the place highly enough.
Cheers

PS: The intriguingly named "Tomato Island" on the way down, right on the banks of the
Roper River, is worth a stop too - especially if you're keen on fishing.

Enjoy! The whole of the
Savannah Way from
Roper Bar to
Burketown is in pretty good condition at present. The 29km off the main road into
Lorella Springs is probably the roughest bit - not difficult at all, but just more corrugated.
Well worth the effort though, I promise.
