We are looking at travelling from Perth to the Kimberley's via Rudall and the Kidson Track probably around June/July next year (2015). We are experienced "remote travellers". We would value company if anyone is interested. We are not interested in a strict itinerary but would insist on a sound but flexible plan. We travel in a Patrol with off road camper (Cub) and are completely self sufficient. We are HAM radio ops and carry amateur HF radio.

We're pedantic up here...
It's 'The Kimberley' please.

Singular and plural.

Quentin, apologies that you couldn't get a sensible reply. Please ignore the pedants. It's a great piece of country and the Kidson is quite interesting. The top section of the track from just north west of razor blade bore has been graded in the past few years by the indomitable Ray Ronchi from Inland services. He re-graded the track all the way in to the Gwenneth Lakes area. It's in fair to good condition. Lower (Southern) stretches down to Lake Auld are the same as they've been for many years so keep a clear eye for washouts and deep holes. There is no water available along the track (as at July). All bores and tanks were inoperable.

Rudall, well there's any amount of info available in the blogs section of the site.

Rudall Info

Enjoy and good luck with finding some company for the trip.

Cheers Mick

Thanks Mick, No problems. I reckon mango pollen addles the brain.
Thank you for your info. Much appreciated and respected. We have spent a lot of time in the Rudall (or is that Rudii) and surrounds and have always looked at the Kidson with interest. I understand that permission maybe required from several quarters to travel on the track. Do you know who I would need to talk to in this regard please if indeed this is correct?
We read your profile and share your view on the GU. We have replaced the fuel pump twice at a cost of around $3.5K a time and also replaced the turbo but we still have her. She has taken us to many remote areas across Aust. Thankfully the major mech problems happened in the city. I also have a grand Cherokee but I'm not allowed to scratch it yet.
Thanks again
Kind regards
Quentin and Rosanne

Quentin,

there was a post on the forum earlier this year that suggested that permission was no longer needed for the Kidson. I';d do a forum search as well as if correct, this makes things a lot easier.

Rudall remains one of my favourite places.

Cheers Mick
