Hi All,
We are making a trip to Fraser Island in early Oct 2014 and are planning to drive to
Sandy Cape to find a
campsite.
Just wondering if anybody has been along
the beach recently and can provide a comment on
the beach conditions and particularly access around the rocks on the way to
Sandy Cape.
Thanks in advance
Pushy

Pushy,
You give the impression you have been there before. I was on the island in July(recently???) and no issue with any of the beaches. The usual problems keeping up momentum on one of the bypass roads but no specific issues on the way to the Cape.
I came to realise that a trip to FI is better arranged around what the tides are doing more so than purely the calendar so I looked up the tides and found that we could get on the island with a Low at 1109 hrs which made our week on the island a breeze as none of the High tides came in to effect us.
Cheers
Trevor

Was there last week beach drving was as good as it gets , could get down
the beach at close to high tide but obviously better at low tides..
Drove to the cape ok , the sandhill at ngala (spelling) rocks was loose as usual , 90% of people get over it on the first attempt.
Heaps of
sharks being caught in the surf with rods,
tailor are on, weather was about 22 to 25 deg c in the day but cool at night as low as 7 deg c.
Beer is approx $45 /case at
orchid beach diesal roughly $2.25 / litre..

Thanks von helga and pepper,
Sounds like we should have little trouble, care is always needed at Ngkala Rocks. Yes I have been to Fraser before but many moons ago when I was a
young fella.
I was making enquiries as couple of times we have not got far past
Orchid Beach due to
the beach being washed away.

If you havent been there for some years be aware that you cant have campfires where you are going unless you take milled timber with you , cannot collect timber in the national park.
One advantage of hiring a house at
orchid beach is that you can collect timber and have a fire on private property.
At cathedral beach park they provide open fire rings but specify you can only burn milled timber that is purchased from them...not allowed to bring your own milled timber...
