Hey hoping to get some advice to help me decide which one to get. I've already done some quick research and so far have come up with that parts for the surf may be hard to find. Personally I would prefer a 3l td 4 runner but I've only come across one so far but does anyone know how the 2.4 td compares to the 3.0 td in terms or reliably, performance and fuel consumption? I wouldn't be asking this question if I didn't have kids but having a Wagon would be much easier which us why I'm leaning towards a surf or 4runner. Any other info/advice to help me would be appreciated thanks.

My son has a 3l TD Surf, and when needed no problem to get parts. Runs really well and loaded pulls almost as good as my 4.2 TD Patrol.

He just got hold a of a GO which he a has always wanted, so the Surf may need a new home soon.

the later 3l is a much better motor then the early 2.4 which suffered over heating problems. On 3l they are prone to head issues so check veery carefully.
also check out Holden Jackaroos built by Isuzu, very robust vehicles they are still a few about with less then 150000ks, the v6 is the preferred motor.

Rayni

preferred motors for a 4 runner would be the 2.8 or the 3 .0 litre diesel. The 2.4 petrol is a bullet proof motor but it is a bit thirty and underpowered , Don't get the v6 petrol .

Rayni M donot even think of buying a Hilux Surf 2.4 litre. They are nothing but trouble. I had one & I could not keep it going & from what I have heard the 3 Litre is not much better.

Someone mentioned the Holden Jackaroo diesel. Well this is trouble as well.
I have a Jackaroo (petrol) V6 3.5 Litre petrol & I cannot fault it.
Running a petrol, the cost is not much different to running a diesel.
Everyone say running a diesel is cheaper but time you pay extra for diesel, filters & servicing it works out the same.

This was bourne out by a survey by Caravan & Motorhome magazine

Does a jackaroo really stack up against a hilux? And what's the fuel usage like in a petrol jackaroo?
