Does anybody have any information on engine vibration at approx. 1500 revs on a 2.8 turbo diesel GU? I have been told that it's a fly wheel problem but am unwilling to buy a new fly wheel as they're so expensive unless I can be assured that this will fix the problem. Any help in this matter would be much appreciated.
Thanks, Nino.

Nino,
A bit more info required mate.
Is the vehicle moving or are the revs just held at 1500rpm?
Holding the revs at 1500rpm and the motor is vibrating could be a lack of fuel or air. The air/ fuel ratio could be at the point where it needs more air or fuel to run smooth.
The injectors might also need cleaning and may be the timing checked.
If the fly wheel was the problem, it would show up at idle.
These are the things I would be looking at before pulling the fly wheel out.

Wayne,
I,m happy that the air/fuel systems are ok although it blows a little more black smoke on accelaration than i would like, this I have traced to the injectors. But the vib has been there since about 90,000 km
and the smoke only recently. It happens only when driving most noticeable 2nd high and you can accel right thru it (just like yours Peter.)
My dealer says it,s a known problem with the duel mass flywheels and said a new one would do exactly the same thing eventully.I guess what
i,m asking is there a fix or is it possible to fit a GQ clutch/flywheel as I know these are solid flywheels not duel mass.
thanks to all Nino.

Giday Nino,I have just been through the mill with the problem you are haveing. The vibration you are haveing is tied together with the flywheel and the computer(according to 4 different Nissan dealers). It has just cost me over $4000 to find out the vibration CANNOT be totally removed.(I was told that the vibration would be placed further up the rev band)After the flywheel and computer was replaced the vibration was reduced slightly. The local Nissan dealer here in Mackay now tells me that it must be something else causeing the vibration IE injectors (all o/hauled)or inj pump(o/hauled)
The vibration is at 1500 rpm in every gear(1--5).They even said it was the drive shaft (d/shaft vibe in 1st .How fast is the shaft turning.HA HA.
The truth is they cannot fix it.According to the dealers this is a
well known problem.

Nino
your situation may be similar to
mine - I have the same model and I have owned it since new from 1998 and my truck has always vibrated in 2nd gear at low revs under load ie going up
hill. But as soon as you increase the revs it stops!
Nothing to worry about - it is just one of those quirks for this model.
I think it is more of a gearing issue- but nothing that will cause damage so when the vibrations start just increase the revs.
Cheers P Guy

I had the same problem with my 3.0 gu auto. It got the point where i had to sell it because it drove me mad. I took it to Nissan and of course they said they could not find it. You can drive most new gu 3.0 patrols and you will feel the same vibration just as your putting it under load but some are worse than others.
Mine was terrible. I have read somewhere that it was a documented problem with the 2.8 but i cant remember where sorry.

John,
I know how you feel. It,s sending me nuts to. And don't you just hate the old chestnut "its normal mate" given by the dealers.
cheers......Nino.

Gidday,Just a follow up you have to replace both the fly wheel and the computer at the same time(a matched Pair).
