Hi Baz, Good points, and agree that it is very rewarding seeing your children develop with an awareness that they can identify challenges and tackle them in a well judged manner. Its not just physical challenges or risk either - mental and emotional challenges require all those skills that you mention - perhaps the more so because they are often faced (seemingly) alone, out of sight and unrevealed to others.
Cheers,
Val

Thanks J & V

A good point you make.

We want to create an environment where TomO understands anything is possible, but equally that all undertakings require assessment and the risks balanced to the reward. Where understanding your limitations is as important as having goals...

Our own approach has worked so far, and we hope that he can learn from that, but also others around him through exposure to risk.

As they often say in the mountains, standing back from the edge is safe, but the view is never as good.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Baz!
