What is a weed in one region may be considered a valuable species in another, without necessarily being any more dominant. Patterson's Curse you mentioned above may be a curse in NSW but in South Australia it is called Salvation Jane as it sustained stock in some droughts. A Central Qld grazier would be aghast if you told him Buffel Grass was a weed as it is treated by National Parks in Central Australia!

Hi Mark,
Yes I know, but that is where the definition"a weed is a plant in the wrong place, where it’s not wanted" comes into play, and covers the many plants that have useful features at some time or in some
places - but are nevertheless listed as weeds . I didn't want to write a lengthy treatise to cover all the weedy complexities, and I wanted to keep the focus on weeds for travellers rather than delve into all the agricultural and environmental implications.
Cheers,
Val
