John, the first camera, the Baby Brownie, was a birthday gift about 1946. Last century! It has long since gone but I since found an identical one on eBay and purchased it for $50. The original cost six shillings, (60 cents) complete with a film.
The second camera, the Box Brownie, had no controls as I said, but I did add electrical contacts to the shutter to enable taking flash photographs. I conceived daylight flash fill photography to the bemusement of my friends, only to later discover that it had already been invented.
In those early days, I developed and printed film in my bedroom using dishes from the kitchen. Only many years later did I achieve a dedicated darkroom.
