Sounds cheeky but here goes:

If you are - can you bring me a decent 12v air compressor?

I've heard of ARB, Big Red and Bushmaster etc but top end units in the UK are around £260! Now I'm close to leaving for my trans-africa trip, my budget is exhausted, and my stupid little Truck-Air cannot cope with my 750/16s! If you've got PayPal or similar I can send you the money but you must be able to buy a decent compressor in Oz for less than in the UK.

Tony - I don't want you to change your travel plans ;) just for me so don't stress out, but if anyone else is UK bound I'd really appreciate this huge favour!

By the way - if you didn't follow the split-rim thread before, then you will have missed my hearty thanks for all the advice - especially the washing up liquid!

I am going that way but not until mid-December. I will at various times be in an area bounded by Southampton, Bristol, Oxford, Kings Lynn and North Suffolk. If you still need one then for future years get in touch.

Thanks Greydemon but I've left it rather late - I'm supposed to be setting off on the 1st of May! Many thanks though for entertaining the suggestion though, as it was just one of those bright ideas one gets at 2 o'clock in the morning!
I've seen something close to the Bushmaster Max-Air for around £220 and if I can squeeze blood out of a stone then I'll get that in the near future.

Thanks again,

Hi there, I'm UK bound on 1st May this year if that is any help.
I'll have to check out what our baggage allowance is first as these things aren't light!

Though I'm sure if you drop an email to one of the dealers (ARB for example) that they may be able to help. Bare in mind though that import duty etc may be an additional cost. Just looked up postage for this and to the UK it is about $77 by sea and $144 by air for up to 20KG. Of course once it arrived in teh UK it would need posting on.

Let me know if you want me to look into bringing one over

Cheers,

Chris

Check out truckspring.com in the us. you can set up a delivery address with them and they will ship stock to you anywhere, they have the thomas built compressors which are the' big red ' for about $160 us. Postage to me in aus was $ 40 us.

They have bigger compressors as well for $250 us, also all the polyair bags and firestone airbags etc.. very cheap compared to aus & uk by the sound of it, Cheers. Brad

Good website, you can get a heavy duty compressor with a 3 gallon airtank and tyre inflation kit for $340 Australian + shipping.

Great find Bradley, I might be shopping myself for a replacement for the old Truck Air! Cheers, Chris

Yeah someone else on here put me onto it a while ago, they have a lot of good gear cheap - especially the 'polyair' bags.

Another good site is airbagit.com they have the crazy gear for lowriders and mini-trucks with the air suspension, they have a 3/4 hp air comp which is overkill for tyres but is good value at $200 us . it would need a fair bit of space to fit in an engine bay though, and it pulls well over 30 amps under load.
