I finally gave up on my Freshield Vacuum sealer and am looking for a new sealer / Cryovac machine.

My old Freshield didn't have a removable vacuum tray and was a pain to clean. I see they have included one now.

It seems that there is Freshield, Unika and Vac Pro in the $250 - $300 range then there is the Sunbeams, Kogan etc etc.

I do like how the Unika sucks the air from the top and is 0.8bar. Most of the others are 0.75 and Freshield don't tell you. I rang them and they said 0.7something. When I said what does that mean, and that I read that you need over 0.75 they said yeah it is that and too much is bad for the food. He really lost credibility at that point, though I think 12v would be useful.

Anyway, for anyone that has Freshield and say Unika, then gone for a sub $100 one like a Sunbeam, is there any difference? Anyone had bad experiences with the cheaper ones?

Been successfully using the Sunbeam, I am just about to buy a third unit in over 10 years so they last about 5 years

You do need to buy the Sunbeam bags though, the cheaper ones just don't work as well

cheers

Thanks Darian.
Love your byline. I once wore a red T shirt to bunnings, about 5 people attacked me. I was the only person in a red shirt that wasn't hiding from customers. LOL

We have had a Sunbeam for approx 8 years and it is still working a treat. We use the vac rolls.
I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

Cheers Dodg.

I bought a Chinese knock-off from Catch of the Day a number of years ago and works great. Looks a bit like the Sunbeam ones and it's the Sunbeam bags I use.

I bought one of these (crowd funded) 2 years ago.
Its not industrial quality, but is compact, doesnt use power, quick and easy. Great to take on fishing trips.
Its other advantage is it can use any zip loc bag - although the quality of the zip loc bag determines the quality of the seal.

I have no experience with the more expensive vac. sealers,
however, when our Sunbeam unit started getting a bit 'temperamental' a few years ago,
I purchased one of these >

Eurolab vacuum sealer @ Deals Direct

I don't remember how long ago, but it's at least 3 or 4 years since purchase, and it still does the job with the somewhat irregular use that it sees.
We've used the Sunbeam and Aldi bags with this unit without issues...

For the price paid, we have no complaints.
(@ current discounted price, I'm tempted to pick up a 'spare'.. one way to ensure that the 'spare' is never needed....;-))

Boobook,

Companion Brands (Primus) have just released a new vacuum sealer.
Try this. I am not good with technology so hope it works.

http://outdoor.companionbrands.com.au/index.php?p=line&id=13056&arch=1

It operates to -0.8 bar and is 12v/240v.

You may have to chase around for it as it has only been released in the last month.
