Hi Russan I did the tip in July last year and left the van at the Lakeland caravan park they are happy to let you leave the van there as there is a seperate place to park them but it can get full in the peak of the season it cost us. $25 dollars a week .but we could have taken the van up with no problems at all if you took the bypass road have a good trip and take your time to enjoy we were only going to stay up the top for 2 weeks but stayed nearly a month regards mazy1

We saw vans stored at the Laura campground when there, didn't leave the camper there but it looked pretty secure. The corrugations were a shocker no matter what speed.

Been a few years since I did it but the caretaker at the Mareeba Rodeo Ground used to let you store it near his residence and he would keep an eye on it. Cheaper camping there too.

Try Mt Carbine Caravan Park.
Last time I checked they didn't charge you to leave your van there.
Just have to stay there the night before and after.

Mt Carbine

Enjoy.

Thanks aboutfivebucks. I had heard the Mt Carbine Caravan Park was good. We had thought we might take the caravan a closer to Cooktown though.
Will check it out on the way up though.
