I have a Safari Snorkel on my 80 Series and want to put a Donaldson precleaner on. I'm wanting to know what I can use to adapt this fitting, the Safari opening has an OD of 90mm and the Donaldson OD is 82.5mm.

Hi Richard I have fitted Donaldson pre cleaner bowls to many different types of farm machinery, I usually measure up the diameters then go to my local exhaust centre and get them to make up an adaptor , they can stretch steel exhaust tubeing to ang size you want and it usually only costs a few dollars. As an after thought, I am surprised that there is not a Donaldson pre cleaner witrh the correct inside diameter for the Safari snorkel. Regards Ken.

Hi Guys
I own an 80 Series Turbo diesel and am about to have a safari snorkel fitted. Although I have owned a series of Fourbies I am new to snorkels. could someone fill me in on what a Donaldson precleaner does. It may sound a bit naive but there are plenty of 4WD owners who would like to know about this stuff. Thanks.

Rossco

A Donaldson precleaner has a container which collects most of the heavier particles ( dust, bugs,...) in the air before they go down the snorkel. They are most effective for travelling in convoy at speeds below 40-50 K's. They also reduce the noise you get from the standard ram air inlet.

Rossco. The underside of a Donaldson pre-cleaner bowl will have angled blades. These blades direct the incoming air into a vortex. As the air (and dust and bugs etc) spins around the inside of the bowl , centrfugal force pushes the bugs and dust to the outside of the inside of the bowl where they fall safely into a trough and wait until you service the device.I hope this answers your question.

Thanks Richard. I will now try to find someone on the northern central coast of NSW to supply and fit both the snorkel and this Donaldson precleaner. Thanks for the info. I love this forum except for the idiots who are trying to destroy it. They should remember that not all 4WD drivers are experts like them.
You know what the definition of an expert is?
