G'day All,
Just wondering if anybody is or has used the UHF ICOM IC - 450 and how they have found it? I am particularly interested in any comments about the functionality of everything being on the handset rather than the unit and also if the speaker is ok or if an external speaker is needed.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Have only had experience with IC-400's, Mel, but used an equivalent GME UHF, with all controls on the mike.
I'm pretty deaf, but found the audio was quite okay, in low noise situations, ie, with windows wound up and AM radio turned down. Having all controls on the mike would have to be much safer while travelling, rather than looking down, trying to change channels etc.
Have used mostly GME products for work over many years, and the one thing that seems to cause any dramas is the mike and/or the lead to it. However, these "all-in-one" mikes are only about $100( for GME) dearer than a standard unit, so that may not be too dear for the convenience involved?
Icom is quality gear, so it should give you good service.
Bob
