Hi everyone we currently have a Jayco starcraft family van with triple bunks etc and are considering selling it to buy either a lotus freelander or a retreat daydream offroad caravan to do a trip around aus with the family for a year or so. We are wanting to do a few offroad tracks like
gibb river etc and want to no how these vans would hold up. Has anyone had any experience good or bad with either van

Neither of the two vans you mentioned could be classed as 'off road vans'. There are simply normal vans with possibly different
suspension, tyres and a few other cosmetic changes, that warrant the oft misused term 'off road'. Ask the manufacturers EXACTLY what build differences there are between them and their normal vans. i.e. is the cabinetry (cupboards etc) stapled or screwed and glued, are cabinet catches different to normal models in their range, are all underneath and exposed wiring and plumbing protected and many other questions
