Could we perhaps start a thread on what you would like to see on/in this new format ?
No positive or negative comments on the format itself, that's already been covered, just any reasonable additions to it as it stands.
Obviously not all ideas will be doable, but let's give Michelle and David some constructive ideas.
Please read the thread through first to eliminate any duplicated thoughts.
My suggestions......
* 'Mark ALL Threads Read' button
* 'Return To Top' button
Any others ??

Enjoy

I would like to see all replies not just the ones I am linked to. This is for all threads like it was with the old site. If it interests me enough to look at a thread, then I would like to see all replies and follow ups.

If Dave's default preference for a a particular 'Expand' button was adopted, would that default apply to all viewers, or could it be made selectable for individual viewers/profiles ?

That button is really neat -
well done and thanks.
As for a default, can you make it user selectable, to be stored in user profile?

The button was a little tricky as we have to deal with non registered users also but it is really working
well. Thanks.
If a preferences was to be done it would be user defined and would be located in the
Forum Main page in the Search & Option area like the Sort Results By.

Using Franks follow up post above this one as an example, is there a possibility of a "Quote" feature so posters can clearly refer to a particular post ?

David, I have always had posts open in a new window checked, so that I could easily follow them should I wish or just close them. It avoided having to go back and reload the
Forum page each time. More an issue with slow internet than fast, but would still like that ability thanks

I have added this option back into the system using the same cookie as before so if you had this set it will stay set. I will be publishing this update in a few hours once I have done a few other changes so by tonight this will be back live.

On the
Forum page a dividing line between the display of the number of threads and pages and the first post.
It just need to clarify where the first post heading starts as it tends to blend with the site post statistics.
Every other post is separated by a line except the very first one.

All my "wants" surround readabilty at this point. My only real gripe is (1).
(1) Change font and make default font size smaller. Current font is EXTREMELY annoying.
(2) I'd like the thread default to be "expand all" (even the read replies).
(3) Ability to select BOLD and ITALIC - just a desire, no biggie if it's too much work.
(4) ALL thread titles to default to TITLE case - ie capitalised. Eg What Would You Like To See In/On This New Format? Looks like a dog's breakfast otherwise. Again, no big deal.
(5) Have never liked the anaemic blue/brown colour scheme but that's just a personal preference.
(6) Maybe the
forum home page would be more welcoming if every other thread had a pale background colour to break up the white. While I'm at it - what's wrong with BLACK text on the index page (ie why the off black?).
Site is much faster so far.
Happy with the functionality I've explored.
David seems to have responded very quickly to ideas, so overall HUGE kudos even though I don't particularly like the look of the
forum home page.

Good one i just used your signature My Position link and it went via profile page - I will make this go direct as a first task. The issue comes when the member has many devices - which one do we link to? I will have to ponder this a little more but will work to refine this connection.

Could you do it in the blue title bar, David?
Perhaps "Welcome" between the Menu icon and the central logo, and the person's name between the logo and the search icon. Right justify "Welcome" so it's close to the logo, left justify the name.
Or put them both to one side of the central logo.
Just ideas.

Yes but this tells me your on a desktop or large device screen size as the is no space on a phone. But i can turn it on if the width is available. I week have a play and see what i come up with. Reckon the profile button could change if there is width to have the name.

All read option not as yet. The read system is so new that we have not done or in some parts even thought about all the options. I will put some thought into all read, thanks.
Edit is also not yet, though I am coming around and had some great

I just opened this thread and indicated horizontal arrows but I had not read this mornings posts - so how do I tell what I have read or not read rotating circles appears on posts I have read and not read and horizontal arrows appear on both read and unread posts.
For the
forum - why reinvent the wheel - the majority of other forums seem to use the same software which covers just about everything you could want to do on a
forum. i appreciate efforts are being made to improve the
forum but it just does not work.

If there is a rotating circle then there is an update that you have not read The rhs arrow is always there to indicate the item is a link.

What ever the logic of items in the menu, it is not apparent, and does not seem logical and is not user friendly IMHO. My suggestion is to have them in alphabetical order (very easy to find) or in the order that are most used by all users. For a small screen device the most used option would be best but this can only be achieved if your system can give you this information.
For a regular visitor I would suggest that you set one of the tabs on your browser to be the ExplorOz
Forum page.

Three things that are missing from the Blogs section in the previous iteration;
1. The ability to seach a members blog list by specific date. At the moment it simply lists them from latest to earliest. In the old system you were able to pull up blogs by date...say Oct 2008. It would then provide a list of your blogs for that month. This doesn't happen anymore.
2. Can't search your specific (members) blog list by text. It searches the entire EO blog index and returns hits for all blogs, not the individual members. If you're looking for one of your canning blogs, you may have to scroll through 20 pages before you find it which leads to my third point below.....
3. Can't specify how many blogs to view in the blog list. You used to have the choice of 25, 50 or 100. Not anymore. You have to scroll through 16 pages in my case to find earlier blogs. Not so much of a hardship if you had an option to select from the 16 pages in the first instance but that is also not provided. You only have four. The Next button only brings up the next page so you have a lot of pages to open before I can get to a blog from 2009 say at Page 13!

The ability to "pinch zoom" on portable devices...
I mainly use an iPad and this ability has disappeared.
I realise that this new version is supposed to optimise the screen for the device, but I like to be able to zoom to look at a section of a picture a bit closer and also when typing/editing responses to position the cursor, select text to copy etc.

For me the text / font is too large and or there is too much wasted space around the posts. It seems to be optimised for phones /tablets and I only get to see one or two replies per page.
If I make the font smaller using Ctrl - then all other sites are unreadable.
It really needs work on readability.
Also default to all display all unread would avoid clicking on that button every time I read a post.

In regards the spell checker I prefer the spell checker built into my browser which is Chrome. This gives me the option to correct as I go or all at once. Also the browser spell checker is much quicker and easier to use. If the spell checker is to be reinstated I would suggest it be an option that can be turned off.
