Has anyone had a problem with developing gearbox bearing noise. 2012 late model BT50 with 76000 km but out of time warranty and gear box replaced free of charge by mazda. Has this been a problem? Have looked at other forums and nothing similar mentioned.

Was this just one single bearing or the whole lot?
I had to replace the front bearing on the cluster gear in my 2003 Hilux at 50,000 ks. It was easy enough to replace so I did it myself. I did not change the other bearings and all are still going
well at 156,000 ks.
That was just one faulty bearing in a million and can happen to any car. On the other hand if it was all or most of them in yours then there may be a lubrication problem. Make sure the oil meets the specifications as listed in the owner's hand book. Don't use anything else.

The vehicle has only been serviced by the Mazda dealer where I purchased it, one would hope they are using the correct oil etc. It was Mazda, not the dealer that decided to install a new Gearbox, the dealer only contacted them and got the go ahead after discussing the fault.
I am not sure which bearing or bearings were faulty, except that I think at least the input shaft bearing was one of them. With the vehicle in neutral and the engine running you could hear the typical bearing noise.

I have a 2012 BT50 twin cab auto - with exactly 76,000 klms on it this weekend. So far no bearing noise, but a slight shudder in first gear around 1,200 revs, but other than that - no issues to date. I tow a 24ft Kingdom
Balmoral and have just upgraded the
suspension and new General Grabber tyres - now it is an AWESOME TRUCK!!
Sorry to hear about your issues though.

Compared to the cost of a new auto transmission the cost of of oil is cheap. I would suggest that if you tow or drive in sand with an auto that after 50,000 you change your transmission oil. Inspect the old oil and if it is brown do the next change in 40,000, if it is red maybe stretch it out to 60,000. How and where you drive has a huge affect on the oil in an auto box. Most auto's these days do not have a dip stick so it is out of site out of mind. If you want your auto to last be VERY pro-active to ensure it always has good oil no matter what the make.

I have been happy with the vehicle and this is the only issue so far.
Mine is a Manual so don't have the issue of cooking the transmission fluid in an auto that has been mentioned in other forums for a few of the Japanese utes.

Had the gearbox fully serviced at 70,000klms as Mazda don't touch it during warranty
services as they know nothing about them. No software faults but just this slight shudder. I will get Mazda to
check the driveline when I get the next service done and the driver's
seat repaired under warranty.
As we are about to head off for 5 years, I got a quote to install a fan forced transmission cooler, but as they quoted $1,700 - I have searched other options. Davies Craig in
Melbourne manufacture the cooler units and their units are available as a full kit - from Burston Spare Parts. $300 for the kit and about the same to install it by a mechanic. That's over $1,000 saving!! I don't mind being ripped off but that's over the top!

Mine is a Manual, so don't have that problem. I have heard of issues with a few of the Japanese Utes, not just Mazda and Ford, having cooling problems with the autos if towing in hilly country or long runs in sand.
