EGR light coming on Mazda BT50 2008

Asking for a friend. Has anybody got any idea why the EGR light is coming on randomly?
Engine running fine..the car (apart from this issue!) is in excellent condition. Km traveled is approx 168k
no towing involved
Very frustrating and anyone with some suggestions would be be appreciated

Do you mean a CEL (
check engine light) is coming on, and he has a obd2 port scan gauge to read it's an egr problem ?
If so, is it a P0401 or P0402 code ?
Often the egr can get sticky and not operate properly, but could also have a sensor issue.
I take it there isn't a blanking plate fitted ?
