CSR - Permits

I'm planning a CSR trip late June to Aug this year (2016), how long before the trip should I arrange permits?

Thanks Phil, I just need to be sure of dates first and of course any other requirement these permits might ask for. Cheers Fargo

We tend to do it closer to departure date. Especially with the three-day WA permit, if your itinerary (if you have one) changes for whatever reason you need to get a fresh one to cover the revised dates as they don't like to change the dates on an already issued permit.

Also the WA system seemingly spits the request out for manual scrutiny if their pooter shows a permit issued covering a date in the preceding 12 months, and that can delay issue.

3 days to do CSR...hooly dooly. Nobody checks them anyway....just get one. Apply for permit as soon as you have dates....and go for it. If a significant change then maybe start again.

Cheers

Greg,
We did the CSR last year and bought 2 permits. Another participant left buying his until later, and found out there was a 3rd permit required for around the Wiluna area. (which I didn't bother with).

We had our permit checked at Durba Springs by Martu Martu boys. There was a big group of them, and they set up a screen and showed a movie on how desert people survived. I think they had seen it a few times as one of the boys in front of us played 'Angry Birds' on his phone until one of his mates told him off. Not bad blokes. They were only interested in the permit for the Durba Springs area.

Great Trip, Cheers,

Greg,
I should mention one of our group had a digeridoo and practiced most nights, he was getting pretty good. He gave the Martu boys a try and they couldn't do it. They did have some nice dance moves though, a bit like the Zorba the Greek one on youtube.

Cheers,

Peter,
The two I had were--

There are two permits required for the trip.
Central Desert Native Title Services Wells 5-15 and Wells 40-51 -------------------- cost $50

Permit 1 -- http://permits.canningstockroute.net.au/Default.aspx

Scroll to bottom of page 'accept condtions" and proceed

Permit 2 -- http://www.anfwdc.asn.au/canning_stock_route.php - Well 16-39 --- cost $110
Scroll to bottom of page

Apply for permit
tick box and buy permit - they also asked what long distance communication you would use. HF, Sat Phone etc.

That was March 2015

Cheers,

Thanks for the feedback everyone, all good stuff.

I'm across Permit one and two, what is the third one? Are the dates and timeframe discretionary or is there a maximum period these permits can be for?

And apart from communication info is there anything else required, like intended camping sites and timeframes?

Thanks again

We applied early and gave a range of dates as shown below. Two passes needed.

Mate, anywhere you go if it is on indiginous land you should check yourself to see if a permit is required. Don't rely on what it was "yester-year". That's why I posted a photo of our permit. Can't argue with that.

Things change as quickly as our pollies. I find that it is best to start by calling the Central Land Council and take it from there.

Have a good trip.

.
As Zippo said, if you need to change your travel dates, problems can arise.
We tried that a while back and the system would not accept a revision but required a new application. That threw up the signal that we already had a permit so it was required to submit the new request to the "Community Elders". We received the new permit several weeks later....after we had arrived home!

My philosophy now is to apply, nominating the best dates you can estimate then travel when you can. If challenged, I'll blather about 'poor eyesight', 'poor memory', 'poor intelligence', even get Roz to start crying. But not become aggressive.
.
Cheers

Similar here Allan. We gave them a whole month just in case we were late or wanted to start early.
