Swampy,
Way to many variables to compare my situation to yours category by category but.
The Dometic in our van, which according to the name plate, has a T (tropical) rating. The van is a 2006 build date so I assume the fridge is about the same vintage or earlier.
It will freeze ice blocks in the little freezer compartment and keeps the rest of the fridge cold enough to store the usual milk, butter, cheese, a few veggies, etc etc for several days without spoiling.
This in the Pilbara where day temps in the mid to high 30's ain't unusual even in the cooler months. It does perform a bit better on gas than 240 and it has a fan and ducting to circulate air around the back.
Wouldn't have a clue as to what the internal temperature is, I never measured it.
The important stuff, the beer, is kept in the Engel in the car. I'm a bit fussy about the temperature of my beer. LOL.

Like you, just usually a couple of adults, that is unless the grandies are lurking around. (;=))
Cheers

hi
Thanks
Any info is good even if it does not directly compare .All the interest is basically in performance of 3way in its own conditions . I donot expect all conditions the same .

To all keep em coming .

Swampy,
Mine is an RM2553 Dometic
148 lt I think
Actually after reading your post again one difference I noted. You say your fans draw heated air from the inside of the van if I am reading that right.
Mine has 2 exterior vents. One about level with the bottom of the fridge and the other directly above a little higher than the top of the fridge.
Does that make any difference to performance??? No idea, that's just how mine is.

Cheers

Swampy,
mine is larger but from what you have described mine is more stable. It can be a pig to get the setting right with different temps and humidity + sun heat.

My normal temps may vary about 6 degrees and can be more on the amount of heat load, fridge openings or loading the fridge.

Mine would never have such a large swing in temps and I am talking about a similar area in Qld. From what you have said it seems like there is a problem.

Just make sure your temp gauge is working ok to eliminate any inconsistencies

Our caravan has a 2015 model 164L Thetford which is tropically rated. We leave the fan switch on all the time (its thermostatically controlled) and it cycles a lot of the time.
The fridge works OK - took it to Brisbane earlier this year in 40 degree heat (was on 12V driving and 240V at night) and it was probably at its limit but no dramas. We use a wireless temp monitor from Jaycar and the temp varied between 2 and 8 degrees - but it varied according to the position of the sensor more than anything else. We weren't adding warm stuff apart from milk.
Happy with its performance as a 3-way - but nowhere near as good as our 40L Engel in the car.

Thanks Phil G
Have looked at those remote temp set ups from Jaycar . They are good for piece of mind . As u have said on 12v , most likely a 3ways weakest supply.
It`s on the list .
To all keep em coming

Fine at the moment but I don't trust them, I have it set on the maximum and -20 in the freezer and +3 in the bottom, it's a 190 litre Dometic.

Last 90 litre I had in my Avan often let me down, sometimes I could get half a cup of oil out of the gas line under the van, must of come from the swap and go bottles I was using.

With the new van I never use swap and go, but do have a very noisy fan in it that can be annoying.

hi
mynance
3ways are chemical fridges and if leaking stain badly and smell of ammonia then just donot work apparently .
As for the liquid in the gas line who knows?

Hi Swampy

The oil would have to of come from the gas bottles, had numerous fridge people check it. No ammonia leaks.
When the 90 litre did work [which was not often] it did work well set on about 4.
Where as the new 190 litre has to be on the maximum setting.
