The original Centre had timber trusses and these are what caused the spread of the fire throughout the roof cavity. The new steel roof structure should reduce any future fire risk.

Bob, that must be putting a little bit of excitement back into town!
I know how a major drawcard's loss can affect things-financially and emotionally.
Thanks for the updates.

Thanks Robyn,

We've just survived the Outback Festival last week and there was plenty of excitement then, along with a surplus of cold 'n flu germs.

There would be a muted excitement in the town, with the way the Centre is progressing, the extra workers in town and a number of locals working there as well. The economy has probably dropped to a level that everyone has become used to, but is sure to accelerate once the Centre is open. Even the opening is sure to be a boost to businesses in the town.

The Outback Festival was huge, with lots of tourists in town, all accomodation booked out and the overflow of caravans sent out to the Showgrounds. Someone suggested 500 'vans!

First 40° day of Spring forecast today, so there'll be a steady stream of travellers heading east over the coming weeks.

Bob

Hi Again Bob

Speaking of businesses in Winton, was there any talk on why the caravan park behind the Servo closed?

They always were booked out early every day and I thought it should have been a good business.

Cheers

Opps Bob, I should have looked a Wiki Camps first.

Looks like it is up and running again.

Yes, he did reopen the park, Stephen, as was a seasonal closure(I think?) but heard this morning he has closed the gates again, so not sure what the problem is now.
