FYI,
If anybody is thinking of heading north of
carnarvon on North west coastal Highway (NWC hwy) or
Meekatharra on Gt Northern Highway forget it for time being.
2 x roadtrain accident involving LPG tanker which has leaked gas and lost one tank -other tank leaking gas and hopefully be decanted over next 24-48 hrs
Gt northern highway approx 20 kms south of Kumarina a road train has tipped over spreading ammonium nitrate over the highway (that the stuff which added with diesel) that makes a damn big BANG used in iron ore pits.
Main roads WA advises the best "detour" is out to
SA border chuck a left Pt
augusta north into NT past
alice springs and then turn left again onto Victoria Highway then back into WA and then to wherever from there !
Gt northern maybe opned in the next 24 hrs or so
Be also aware that a code Blue alert has been issues for most of Kimberly
pilbara coastline with another TC expected to form over next few days and cross coast around Mardie 80 mile beach (situation normal for that area)
Some might say I am taking the mickey but seriously I am not !

Weather bureau models suggest that apart from any damage it may cause near the coast this system will produce some major rainfall over much of outback WA and down into the wheatbelt, goldfields and even
Perth.
Not many people travel for pleasure out there at this time of year but heavy rain causes dramas for people working.
And 20mm or so of rain in
Perth in January always makes a change.
Cheers

Apparently Auski was hit by 3 lightning strikes which fried everything.

They got traffic moving (single lane) within a few hours on the Great Northern Highway, and the North West Coastal Highway was opened to traffic at 1 pm today.
Meanwhile expect road closures from flooding from the low expected to reach cyclone force by morning. Expected to be a Category 3.
