Hi all,

I had a few of you guessing the other day about a obelisk out in the bush. Now here's the vid.

Complete with tales of despair and sacrifice, gallantry - lol no not really.

Here's a video about my recent trip to the Western Nullarbor. Enjoy and Happy New Year / Much good traveling in the New Year.

Cheers
Alan

Good one Al.

Was a bit spooky heading down that track to the cliff then straight on over it.
That was something I envisaged when I first went there some years ago. I could imagine someone heading straight over..... no sign of barricade.

But I enjoyed the whole video. Certainly puts a new dimension to having driven along there. Thanks mate. Happy New Year.

Cheers
Allan

Hi Alan

That was great and thanks for taking the time to put it together.

Those drone shots sure add a different perspective and were unreal.

Happy New Year

Cheers

I was very concerned which Massie

I know friends of mine that live on a station north of Cockburn on the SA/NSW Border.

One of their working dogs took a bait and died. When he found his dead faithful companion, He put the dead dog on the back of his Ute to take it home and bury it in their garden.

Another dog on the back of the Ute licked the dead dogs face and mouth, trying to wake up the dead dog. A number of hours later, he had to shoot the other working dog to put it out of its misery....it must have received poison from from the dead dog and it was so destresding to see the second dog in so much pain.

Take care

Regards

Stephen

Brilliant video Alan, many thanks for sharing. As I commented on you Youtube link.

Terrific video Alan, thanks for the armchair ride. You prove yet again that there is so much to see out there.

A few points if I may:

• You lost your hat of some 20 years – a disaster – the Lawrence of Arabia look was okish - but next time maybe take two hats!

• The drone view over the re-discovered rockhole clearly shows the importance of these waters to animals, with large game trails leading in. Its also a lesson to people looking for rockholes - follow converging game trails.

• I guess there weren’t any inscriptions on the rocks near these rockholes from days gone by or you would have showed us.

• Thanks for illustrating the vigilance needed regarding poison baits. And thank god Massie was ok.

Happy New Year Al and Massie.

Roll on our 2019 adventures.?

Morning Phil,
Thanks for your kind words.
My hats at Deakin - I had it there when I came in, but left without it.
A spare hat might be the go though, as you say - though I felt strong and powerful playing Lawrence haha
There were no inscriptions at the rockholes that I could see.
It was great to see an active rockhole out there, no doubt the animals come from a long way to have a drink.
Posion baits, can never have enough reminders I guess.
HNY to you too and Yes - this year lets get the team together and do something awesome.
Cheers
Alan

Nice job Alan, reminded me just a little of the Leyland Bros episodes, just a bit.

Drones are awesome fun, but importantly give a great perspective of just about anywhere.
I've thought to myself, you could fly / film a swamp and make it look good !

One thing I'm waiting for is to use it as a tool, say look over a few dunes to find a bypass around wet clatpans etc, or tracks that are too faint to see on the ground are usually visible from aloft.

Nice country, and good to do such a detour type trip.
We went through Nullabor going to mid south coast WA in June last year, and did a little detour up to Murrawijinie Caves, also detoured down to Baxter Cliffs area on the way through Old Tele Tk to Esperance.

Will be going back through WA a few more times for sure.

Hi Les, thankyou - I'll take that one :-)

I'd like to use the drone as a guidance tool also. I have not yet been in that space yet - hopefully this year if the weather gods permit.

Cheers

Hi Alan - a copy of what I posted on YT.
Great video brings back memories when I was at Deakin in Nov 2014. The aerial shots give another perspective which you don't see on the ground. There is a rubbish dump about about 2 km's south of Deakin of some interest. While I was there a train came along. It made an interesting photo being able to get the whole train in frame.

And to answer your question, yes would love to see more video's. One of the things I really like about your video are the maps showing where you are.?
Cheers,
Chris

Thanks Chris,
Missed the rubbish dump, next time :-)
Nice shot, the trains come and go frequently.
Deakin certainly needs another look.
Cheers
