Well following a big snow dump during the week its time to go 4wding in it again.

The photo was taken at Mt Matlock near Vic town of Woods point and shows that plenty got out during the week. Away from main spots there was lots of virgin snow wildlife and people needing a snatch.

G/Day Robin,
,Looking rather brisk there ,I'm off to do a bit of excavator work at Barrington tops NSW next week, the scenery might well be the same..

Just hoping the old girl will fire up after a few weeks doing nothing in very cold conditions

Cheers Axle.

Axle
Remove the air cleaner element and place a small dish of method in the base. Light the metho and it will heat the incoming air and the diesel will start very easily when cranked. After warmed up a little, Replace air cleaner element. Job done.

Unless you’ve got Alpine Diesel in the digger, Axle, you may need some prep work?

20L of hot/boiling water is handy to pour over injectors, inj. tubes & the injector pump, and maybe get a small fire going underneath the machine to warm up the fuel tank batteries etc. All depending on how much debris is on or in the machine.

Can’t beat a good dose of sunlight on the engine too, but that commodity might be in short supply up there, over the next week or two.

And jumper leads........
Good luck,
Bob

Axle, a petrol-soaked rag held over the intake, makes any diesel fire up rapidly, even at 10 deg below!

Cheers, Ron.

I'm curious, what constitutes a "big snow dump" up there? :)

Nothing like the US Candace. :-) Some cars got snowed in with around a 1 metre deep lot of snow on Mt Blue Rag last week.

A meter is a respectable amount anywhere. :)

Personally, I avoid the stuff these days. That's why I live in Las Vegas!

Crank up the diesel heater central heating and pump hot glycol through the engine for a while does the trick.
The diesel heater gets a slug of kero in its fuel tank to keep it liquid.
Cheers,

Flew over (well to the west of) Kosciuszko and Hotham etc bit over a week back on a commercial flight. Perfectly clear day until we got closer to Melbourne so was able to take some phone shots of the early snow to share with the family. Spectacular sight from above, although it's much better when you're down there among it on a good day.

Anyone catch Ernie Dingo's Going Places show on Charlotte's Pass and a few of its characters last week?

Here's a few shots from the office. What a difference a couple of weeks makes.
