Hi all & a Happy New Year ??

Got another question?

Bought a Deep cycle battery for my 80, and the terminals are on opposite sides.

Any thoughts as to what I should do?

I have though of just changing out the terminals so they are longer.

What are you thoughts guys?

Cheers
Dana

Hi Dana

Are you able to either return the battery to get one with the correct terminal positions.

There are made that way so in the event of an accident, the positive terminal is not going to short on the body of the vehicle, and possible fire risk.

Other will have a better explanation.

Cheers

Hi Dana,

You should be able to exchange as Stephen suggested, but if not then read on.......

When you say that the "terminals are on opposite sides" I presume that you mean they are reverse to the original battery and that the cables will not reach to the appropriate terminal. Is that so?
If the battery is turned around, end-for-end, will the cables still not reach? If so they must be very short cables.

What are the battery terminals? Are they lead posts about 18mm diameter, or are they threaded holes that accept 8mm bolts?

What do you mean by "changing out the terminals so they are longer."?

If you can answer the above questions I may be able to advise you.
Cheers

Do you mean replace the terminals or the leads? Not sure what "changing out means". In the same situation the battery can be end for ended and the cables crossed as an option. An AGM isn't good under bonnet because of applied radiant heat. Can you keep it cool somehow. .
