Hey all,
New member, previously had Landrovers for many years and was quite active on AULRO.
Made the switch to a HDJ79 a few years ago and haven't looked back. I'm just about to clock over 300,000 and have decided to keep it and give it a birthday, rather than switch to a V8.
I understand injectors vary greatly in different models and makes, but just wondering what sort of life you've got out of your 1HDTFE injectors before either failure or
test and rebuild?
Thanks
Jock

Hi
Injectors and pumps should always be checked thru out there lives . Service history becomes very important . Direct injection injectors wear out due to the high pressures. This causes poor atomisation, irregular spray pattern and differing amounts of fuel.
I would
check fuel pump at any time front engine work takes place eg 200,000km .
Injectors every 100,000km
Not a Toyota but my
Ranger diesel had injectors at 70,000km and a new one was faulty
Injector pump was checked as
well. prior to repairs vehicle was getting 300km to a tank.
I own a D4D Hilux 2011 the injectors are as noisey as hell = poor quality and typical
Basically DID or old school pumps and injectors need checking .
I change fuel filters every 10,000--15,000km . Suprisingly the filter paper is very black for the low km.

Purely for reliability and fuel economy at 300,000 the injectors should be checked/replaced. It all depends on how many cold starts in 300,000km as to the life of the injector nozzles and filtration. Yours can't be compared to CRD diesels like Hilux or
Ranger as it isn't the same. A mate of
mine has a 100 series with 1HDfte engine and it has done
well over 200,000km with no perceptible change to performance or economy. Mostly does 3 ton van towing, so longer hot distances usually/most of it's life.
Yes filtration is important, but black in a filter is staining from microscopic bituminous particles in the fuel going through it. Always will do that, more with some diesel fuels than others. Don't ask me which ones though. Some black can be algae growth present in tank and passing to filter. Always use a bug killer periodically to treat the fuel/tank/system.

Thanks for the replies, I more than mechanically minded so understand the ins and outs. I was just interested to know, from those with experience of these motors, how many kms have you seen on these fuel systems?
I'm the second owner and I know the previous owner racked up most of his kms towing across the Nullabor, 80% of my work is similar - long hot runs. At this point in time I'm struggling to justify in excess of $5000 ($1500 injectors, $2900 pump plus other consumables) for a motor that is running perfectly fine. Though the old 5 P rule comes in to play there too
I replaced injector lines last service so all good there. I was reading the service manual the other day and interestingly the book states it's only the HDJ100 that has the 150,000km interval on injector lines

Hi
All injectors and pumps need service thru out there lives ,no exceptions . No difference between DID or old school . Pumps and injectors still wear out and deliver the wrong amount and poor quality spray patterns .
When there in for service the pumps and injectors are bench tested first . Many occasions some donot require o/haul ,some do .
If u want a huge amount of
miles from your diesel ,its what you do .
