Doing a camping trip soon and one stop will be the Karara Rangelands between Morawa and Paynes Find. Just wondering if anyone has stayed in the various designated campsites there and can recommend one. We will most likely be arriving later in the day and would like to go to the best site first if possible.

Haven't been there since they designated it the Karara Rangelands but have been to Warriedar a couple of times. A good spot. The area around Lake Monger is also ok. Can't comment on the other spots.

Thank you for bringing this area to my attention... I'm pleased to see that we have most of the POIs for this area well documented in Places but I have been doing a little bit of research about the Kadji Kadji Camp zone and have a question for anyone that has been there (as the official documentation doesn't make this clear). The "zone" is indicated as a spot on the Kadji Rd to the NW of the Kadji Kadji Station ruins however I suspect from looking at various YouTube videos I've seen of the area that the zone is actually the entire length of the Kadji Road including the Breakaway Loop - can anyone confirm this or at least clarify the exact zone where camping is permitted here? I'd just like to drop a camping POI as this one is missing and its confusing me!

I also have a second question - our EOTopo indicates a former "populated place" called Kadji Kadji at the western end of the Kadji Lake Rd on junction of Morawa-Yalgoo Rd. I can see on the satellite maps there there are some ruins here, but there are also ruins at the eastern end of the same track and this is marked on our map as Kadji Kadji Station. It just seems a bit confusing to have 2 places called Kadji Kadji - can someone who has been there please give me some guidance on how to make it a bit clearer in Places as to what is actually at each of these two places? Is one an outstation? If anyone has photos to add to either/both places please upload. Thanks.

PS: otherwise I"m going to just have to high-tall up there this long weekend - looks awesome (but probably too hot, and should wait until wildflower season).

Hi Michelle

I have been through the area before they called it Karara and made the new camping areas. Kadji Kadji was about the only place I didn't get to.

The people you probably need to talk to is DPAW Geraldton ph: 99640901. I have spoken to them on different occasions re the Karara Rangelands and abandoned stations in the mid west and have always found them helpful.

Regards

Thanks Rod, after hours of research yesterday I have added a few new Places but will like to get verification of the positions and get photos etc. I presume you'd have the Traveller app with you, so just refresh the Places database before you go to get these and then if you could please use the app to add what you find and verify that would be much appreciated. Looks really interesting. I'd be keen to explore along the Breakaways up near Kadji Kadji, as well as all around Lake Monger. Probably best during early spring but anytime should be good. Hope you get to explore it thoroughly!

Michelle, I'm a self confessed OziExplorer user but would like to be able to help out keeping the ExploreOz info up to date. So can you outline how I can keep the places database up to date via the Traveller app? There are a number of points in the Rangelands that I'm sceptical about their position on all the maps sources that I have, so what should I do when I discover an error. For instance, let's say I roll up at a DPAW named camp ground but it's in the wrong spot on the app. If I have the PLACE open and add photo, does it also edit it's position or is there something else to do?

Hi Rocket Rod - use the app as follows:

- create a new Place using the drop pin, then after its created, you can open place and add photo (capture using device camera or select from device gallery, or upload file at a later time such as from a DSLR camera)
- post a "comment" in the place that is at wrong location to say this and refer to the new place (I get a log file of every comment and new place and place update so I will sort out the rest).

If you haven't created Places before in the app, please refer to the User Manual for tips/further instructions.

PS I contacted the ranger the day after this post appeared and I got a response back immediately with the GPS positions and clarification of all the things I queried. I just haven't had a chance yet to go back and cross-reference this but will do asap.
