Axle,

I was looking for some blogs by Baz recently & they are all AWOL. It appears he is no longer a member. About the same time, spoke to another member who recently had contact with Baz so he must be travelling okay.

Also when you look at places when previous members had added photos, their names are also removed......not good in my books, as they took the time to add then and shows what they think of previous members.

"...and shows what they think of previous members."

Geez, that's a bit of a stretch, isn't it Stephen?

Why would "they" think any the less of a person who has simply decided to move on and not renew?

In now way is it a bit of a stretch.....100% reliable facts that can not be disputed.

Her is a perfect example where the original person has added the below image, and it will always say the person name or screen name at the bottom LHS

The moment that person is not longer associated with the site....name vanishes...

And Frank, if you thought that was just a once off, here is another example.

Places is one area I keep a very close eye on and Baz the Landy added a number of Places images. Every photo that he added along with previous members that are no longer here, you will find no mention of there name.

Just because a person leaves the site, it should not be a reason to have their name removed.

Stephen,

No, it's not a once off. I never thought or said it was, and the loss of the name is not the issue I was discussing. Read my post again.

The issue is your implication that "they" (who could that be other than site owners?) are petulant over a member departing, which is what your "and shows what they think of previous members" seems to suggest. That is a most unfair imputation against the site owners and is what I was writing against.

If that is not what you were saying, then I think you need to clarify what you meant.

As for the process, it's just the way the automation in the EO system works. If a photo is linked to a member and the membership expires, the credit, linked to the membership, goes as well.

It's the same in our club's forum. If a membership expires the members posts remain for all to see but the poster's name becomes a generic "Guest" because there is no longer a link between the post and a membership.

I thought you were referring to the photo wording.

The persons name should not be removed as it still should be credited to the person that took the time to add the image.

David is a very great guru with IT and nothing is impossible and it should be rectified

Like I said above, I find it very disappointing to see just By and then blank.

I can see your logic.

If you haven't already done so, can I suggest you send a suggestion via the Moderator button at the bottom of the thread, or email - whatever you prefer.

The missing name is likely just the result of a database query. The name would be drawn from the membership table, not stored with the photo. Once the person leaves the membership table, the name can no longer be fetched so is displayed as blank.

Nothing is impossible with IT these days Michael and the person who added the image/images should still be on the photo.

The record in the images table would have the id of the member from the membership table not the name. This helps to correctly identify the person and is better than storing a name which can be prone to spelling mistakes over multiple images. Members often change their screen name as well. If the id is stored then you can easily gather all the images belonging to a particular member. It's standard database design practice.

Life is a lot nicer if you don't assume the worst intentions when it may not be the case. I agree that it would be better if the name was still showing, even if it is just an alias, and it is certainly possible to design the database to accommodate it.

There is a serious gremlin in the system. If you look at the last post by Allan, my screen name was change and not by me.....

All of a sudden, my private email was added as my screen name which is a major breach of security............

How can anyone explain this?

Frank, "The Bantam" suddenly disappeared a couple of years ago, in late 2017.
I do know his real name and we corresponded by email from time-to-time but suddenly he ceased posting on this forum and my emails went unanswered. I have no other way to contact him so it was confounding.
I do hope that nothing awful happened to him.

Cheers

Now here's an interesting one Stephen........

In the "Thank You" or "Thumbs-up" boxes, your name is now showing up as "langman@bigpond.net.au' rather than your Member name of "Stephen L (Clare SA)" as it previously did. Are you no longer a Member or are the Gremlins at work?

Incidentally, the EO server is running awfully slow!

The plot thickens Allan.........

I have not done a thing, but when I just looked at my Account details....something that I never ever go into, where it shows your Alias/Screenname* my user name has been removed and replaced with my private email??????????

That now warrants a please explain in my books, so wonder if it has ever happened to anyone else or just Murphy's Luck and only me?

Cheers

Stephen

It's also interesting that one reply shows up as your email address and one as your user name. If it was drawing this dynamically from the database I would assume they would be the same. Both posts have the same signature.
