How old is your new mate?

Video brings back memories of our trip to WA & a night at Twilight Cove, Alan. Walked down onto the beach, was almost breathtaking!

After a slow run down the OTL, descended at Wyllie Scarp & did a beach run past Bilbunya Dunes to Israelite Bay. I can understand your trepidation doing that beach run solo. There was 4 vehicles in our group!

Thank you for the video.

I did the same trip in 2003 and a mate who knew the area well and wouldn't drive the beach. Instead we took the inland track behind the dunes, and only had to do the last few hundred metres on the beach near the Eyre Bird Sanctuary. There was a boat washed up there.

The Eyre Telegraph Station (now Eyre Bird Sanctuary) has a great history dating back to the 1800's - it was a repeater station on the line from Adelaide to Albany. It was used for 50 years then closed in 1927 and the building was restored by Birds Australia in 1977. The caretakers at the time made us fresh scones!

Took the screen shots below of the well in 1997 and 2021. Depth to water in 97 is halfway up the sloping plank on the left. This year it looks say 0.5 to 0.8m lower to sandy bottom. Maybe the water is lower if it has been dry the last 6 months and it has not filled in with too much sand. You should have jumped in and dug down to see if any water seeped in LOL.
Enjoyed the video as we did a 5 km run west down the beach from the Bird Obs in 2018. Banks of weed a metre high and a couple of seals. Link: https://www.exploroz.com/places/61873/wa+kanidal-beach

Like Bob Y & Phil G we did that trip in reverse the same year as Bob Y I think. Equinox you have heightened my need to do this type of trip again. The seaweed was indeed at least a meter high & some of the sand covered the seaweed in a dangerous way. We left Cocklebiddy at first light & arrived back a long time after dark totally exhausted but so enthused for the country we saw.

Thanks so much for the video. I'll be taking my border collie on the same trip, and it's fantastic to see the surrounds you've brought to us. If nothing else, with my Long Service Leave I am about to take (just me an dog) it shows me where I can get to.

I also did this trip in 2016, spent 5 days solo filming the birds. The first time I did the beach run waited till the tide was right out and no dramas, a couple of days latter did the same run again just after high tide which meant I was driving higher up the beach, when I got to the section were the rocks are down I went. I carried some old sand mats and was quickly out but what I discovered was a fresh water soak. I never noticed any sign of it previously.
