I have a Ridge Ryder fridge (12/240V, 38.5L) that I bought from Super Cheap Auto a few years ago, and it is now showing the fault light (not keeping temp). Anyone know a good place to get this looked at in Adelaide?

most issues are voltage related due to the fridge plug not working properly, and there being resistance through the terminals. My fix was to buy an anderson plug and use that. $2

A trial on 240v should test this theory. Normally not holding temp is the gas is gone and if thats the case it's usually a replacement fridge

With the high cost of labour these days, if you cant sort it out yourself, i would just buy a new one. You probably wont get out of the cheapest repair for under $300 with labour, parts and GST. There are many good fridges on the market in the 40 Litre range with many different configurations that may suit your vehicle layout better than your current fridge with a $400 to $600 range. Also if its not repairable for a reasonable cost, you may have to pay a fee for the quote if you don't go ahead with the repair. Just my thoughts.. Let us know how you get on. Michael

Ivan, I saw them in Jaycar, fit and finish quality looks good, 3 year warranty, you can't go wrong and Jaycar backup around the country. Michael

Agree they look the part and the retailer is a reliable operator. The only negatives I have hear is the LG compressor is not as good as the Danfoss one ?

Tested it on two trips so far and it's passed with flying colours. Been on continuously now for two weeks since we have returned still with no issues. Holds temp well.

Dont know why people are so hung up on compressor brands, they rarely fail on any fridge, it always seems to be the electronics that control the compressor and fridge operation.
Only difference I can imaging worthy would be power consumption and that is hard to compare as danfos/seacop units are variable so the same unit can draw different amounts by changing a resistor but the less they draw the longer they have to run for.
The way I see it, it is build quality that counts, how well they handle vibrations over time and there is only 2 ways to find that out and I dont think any retailer will let you pull one apart to have a look before you purchase it.

Like RTM you'll get your money back when the fridge fails like mine did on the day I bought. But that's after a few moments of them disbelieving what you tell them.

One of the other routine faults can be a dud thermistor. I think Ridge Ryder are (or were) rebranded EvaKools. I had a dud EvaKool, took it to a fridge repairer, was told it was unfixable, ($85 thank you). Thermistors are about $40 from EvaKool or 10 for $14.95 on Ebay. On a whim, I bought some off Ebay. Damn fridge hasn't faulted in 18 months continuous running.

Contact Evakool they should be able to recommend someone in Adelaide. I did that around 19yrs ago when we lived in Perth our Evakool fridge had a faulty thermostat from memory and fixed under warranty from a dealer they recommended didn't take long.
