Simpson closed until at least 15th July

Walkers is private land and also 90% swamp and 90% goat track. Rain effects take ages to ease and there is very minimal maintenance. It's the land owners call on it being open or shut

Walkers Crossing is a PAR

Public Access Routes (PARs) are established under the Pastoral Land Management and Conservation Act 1989 (PLMC Act) to provide public access over pastoral land without the need for travellers to ask permission from the lessee. Any travel other than that on a public road or PAR requires prior approval from the lessee of the respective pastoral lease.

Pursuant to section 45 (7) of the PLMC Act, the Pastoral Board may temporarily close a PAR for the purposes of the safety of the public, the management of stock or the carrying out of rehabilitative work on the land adjacent to the route.

PARs are not roads or part of the formal road network. They are unimproved and unsurfaced dirt tracks intended to provide four-wheel drive access in dry conditions only. Conditions such as washouts and corrugations maybe present. Drive to track conditions with caution.

It can't be the landowners call as your next post says " without the need for travellers to ask permission from the lessee." And as for the paragraph about a TEMPORARY closure, it has been shut for years. Just ask the LEYC and others on this forum. Even the trek Walkers Crossing here on Ex Oz has a big wrap about it only updated 3 months ago but alas wrong because it is shut.
We did it in 2015 and the way it looks no one will ever do it again, unlike the Beach Boys song. Section 45 of the act covers all the bases under the guise of so called safety, stock and rehab. Those lawyers can come up with any excuse to keep a PAR shut. It's awesome country out there as the links below show and now it's inaccessible.

OK taken onboard. If we had access to the Desert Parks Bulletin archive we could be sure of how often Walkers is closed. Most would want it open in the cooler tourist season and when the Simpson is open -16th March to30th Nov. As for recent rainfall, inBirdsville, Oodnadatta and Moomba it's been negligible in the last 2 months. The tracks will now be dry but the DPB has most camping spots shut. Go figure.

Just looked at SA Outback Rds. They don't even have Walkers on their map. It's like Big Brother has expunged it from existence. Then again they do not show any of the Simpson tracks either, just roads only. I see that the Inside Track is shut until further notice. Currently flooded as per Eyre Ck. When was the last time it could be used as a shortcut?

1. I wonder how much worse track conditions are compared to when you and I did a PAR. We drove to conditions and survived and enjoyed the trip. My mates Magna made it to PAR 2 - Level Post Bay!!! So it was hardly too difficult.
2. We own competent 4WD's to handle the rough stuff. So step 1 and 2 cycle and repeat.
3. Looks like we'll just have to watch 4WD 24/7 and the like on the tube with our pyjamas and slippers on.

Speaking with a Barman at Innaminka a couple of weeks ago he mentioned that the Pastoral Board has closed it due to people getting lost, they want National Parks to erect signage so apparently there is a bit of a standoff.
