Just a reminder that it is important to keep the grease up to your wheel bearings. Could save a costly breakdown.

In my opinion I think the bloke who did this in the photo may have put a tad too much on them.

I think he was over enthusiastic with the grease gun and punched out the back seal seeing there is a grease nipple at the end of the axle.
Imagine the outcome should the grease got hot and started to liquify

I think you will find there is no grease nipple in the end of the axle! If there was, when greased by any gun of auto delivery system, the grease would automatically ooooze out between the rollers of the outer bearing.
If it had a nipple in the axle the outer cap would have to be removed to grease it.
I the grease got hot it would simply run out of the drum after lubing the brakes.
That might have had a greaseable cap though, it appears to be on a trailer or van, ie 2 axles. Greasing that would punch the seal inwards with hydraulic pressure.

Most people don't add sufficient grease to a hub to have long bearing life. It has to be above the smallest dia of the cups to provide recirculation of lubricant when the grease does get soft or liquify a little.
The seal is an oil seal but works for thick stuff like grease too.

That only greases the tapered rollers and cones, good though. It is the hub which has to be sufficiently filled to ensure bearing life without the hub being overfilled by some method. The only way the picture of the grease could happen is if the hub was continually greased via a nipple on a hub axle cap.

Good question. Nowadays it could have been done by someone who sees themselves as a black, lesbian dolphin or a transposed , bilingual mute!!! What ever happened to just two genders??????
