Hello, I am looking to install an East Coast Bullbar "Big Tube Bullbar" to my 2021 Prado Gxl.
Don`t want steel as they are too heavy.
Does anyone have any knowledge on how good are and how they perform?

- in general use over time on a touring vehicle?
- how do they stand up in the case of an animal strike?

Thanks, David

In general, steel is the only way to go if you want metal models to stand animal strikes. If you want a light eight model then consider a SmartBar.

I've got an ECB Big Tube bar on a 2013 Prado. Seems fine but ...

I've had two altercations with kangaroos but neither of them hit the bull bar.

What kind of animal strike are you considering - wombat, pig, cow, roo, buffalo? Too many variables.

cheers, Kevin

Hi David,
I have anECB on my 09 Prado 120 and have been very happy with it.
It has a product number BT38SYP sticker on it.
One thing- check how long delivery time is expected.
I know of someone waiting months for a 120 one with the reason given of production delays.Yours may be different.

Safe travels,
Graham.

I have always had ECB bars from QLD, for the last 22 years except for this car as they wanted $2400 for it fitted, decided to go without, and not do night driving. In my last car a Pathfinder I had 2, the wife hit a tree at 67km and destroyed the bar, but it saved the front of the car and the chassis, was not bent. I also hit a 6 foot roo, on the right side at 80km, and it was only slightly bent. Because of regulations with Suzuki's you cant have steel bars, so my current car, would normally only have an alum, or plastic. Ihave had 3 previous Suzuki's with ECB's and very happy with them.

Only problems I've had with mine are the fog lights are crap and the indicator/park lights filled with condensation twice but were replaced foc. They have an upgraded them and had no problem since fitting the new type.
I did need to paint the back of it with flat black to stop headlight reflection.
But solid as a rock.

Big thanks to all those that have replied to my question. Your experience and opinions are much appreciated.

Although they’re not as strong as steel, after reading everyone’s comments and 1st hand experience I reckon an E.C.B. bulbar will provide me with the balance between weight saving and last line of defence protection I am looking for.

Thanks once again,
David.

I consider an ally bars main function is to keep the car drivable albeit with front panel damage, as long as the radiator remains intact.
