Hi all
Looking at doing
Googs Track next year in June (ish) but have to travel from South East Qld first. We've done plenty of travel but have never made it down to the bottom side of SA. Did the Simpson a couple years ago - no issues. Always drive to conditions whether on or off road.
Anyway, we are looking at taking the van down to
Streaky Bay area & perhaps leaving it threrabouts to do Googs & come back & get it. We'll Oztent Googs.
Is there a "quick way" back to
Ceduna other than
Port Augusta? On the map, I think I'm looking at some dirt between Wirulla &
Kingoonya. Would that be correct?
All things being equal & roads being ok, any approximates of travel time along here to get back?
I know things change, as may our plans, but just getting ideas atm.
200 series family of 4.
Any ideas appreciated

The road between
kingoonya and wirulla is a good and interesting 2wd drive . Keep your wits about you though as last time we came down it there were plenty of roos and emus playing chicken. It’s about 250 klms.

As above or come a bit further east and explore the
Gawler Ranges NP on the way through.
Note that Hiltiba Station is owned by the Nature Foundation and they have some great walks, drives and
camp sites.
And
Kingoonya has donation camping (with good
toilets and firewood supplied), a serviced caravan park, fuel and good meals at the pub.
Cheers,
Peter

Kingoonya to Mt Ive Station (
Lake Gairdner) then via
Gawler ranges to rejoin the highway at
Minnipa. Lots of interesting country

There's a nice walk to a
lookout over
Lake Gairdner and good camping at
Pildappa Rock too.

We prefer
Tcharkulda Rock, further south and just 4km from the highway.
Less people there.

Peter
