As Bigfish says the big rains up north have been further south than the Cape. The Cape is currently getting monsoonal rain - situation normal.
It is possible to get up there in May, but not if you are on a schedule as it is also quite possible you could find yourself camped & waiting for rivers to drop. They can go up & down like yoyo's. However if you go
well prepared with plenty of
food & water, & emergency coms it can be the most interesting & least busy time.
If you have time limits early June onwards are the best times.
If you can avoid school holidays.
By the end of September/early October
places to stay are closing & it starts to get very hot.
The old Telegraph track changes every year but is generally easier toward the end of the season with lower water levels & the tracks a bit easier.
Over all I think June or September are the best times.
