I am considering buying the app. Having a lot of trouble assessing the product though. For example, there is a free map viewer on this site but apparently no legend? Why not support something like a 7 day trial for the App? I see lots of online video, but cannot find a basic product run through to demonstrate the interface and capabilities. So do I make a $110 gamble for the app with latest offline map?

Firstly, I note you are not a member. Have you explored the benefits of membership? Go up to the top of this page and click on the link labelled "COMMUNITY," then on the dropdown, click on "MEMBERSHIP." Read through that, particularly the bit headed "What are the Member-Only Extras?" You may find some answers there.

Thanks Peter. Yes I've read about the membership extras. However I am interested in the application and offline maps. It appears that the only way to assess the application is to buy it unless there exists a video review that does a good job of demonstrating the application's interface and capabilities. I have not seen one though. I am not keen to make any payment unless I can first get a good idea of how useful the application will be. For example, do you know if it is possible to filter roads by fit/not fit for towing (I realise that is not necessarily a binary attribute but would hope there is a filter that would inform more than simply sealed/unsealed)? Is there a feature comparison versus alternatives such as Hema or Gaia?

The cost is only around 9 coffees with a Mate if you are paying. Out in the wilderness it will be more useful than a mug of coffee. Maybe you will find your way to a coffee shop with it! Therefore, worthwhile, no gamble involved!

RnK : videos mentioned , do you mean
ExplorOz youtube channel tutorials, you get a pretty good idea of the app of the more recent tutorials, the older videos are earlier version.
If you decide to purchase make sure to take ALL recommendations on download permissions and settings for the app to work smoothly .

Personally I find the new version very easy to use and good value for money .

Hi RnK
The replies so far seem like they are after a sales commission or something.
I think the reason there are no simple overview videos available is because it is too complicated for a simple overview. Likewise a 7day trial would probably leave you confused and frustrated as well.
I have been using it for years and still struggle with some of the concepts like treks/tracks and how to save and access either yet alone integrate them for access on the tracker app etc.
Any tutorial videos seem to assume the viewer has a much better understanding than may be the case so too many vital bits are missing I feel.

You only need to gamble $59.99. You won't have off-line maps but everything else will work the same. I took the gamble after Hema's big fail. It is a great product worth the price but it is a gamble. The interface is both simple and complex. Simple enough to use it right away, with enough complexity to make it do what you want.

There is more than enough information about the application on youtube, the web and this site. Its not very hard to use and the more you use it the easier it is to use. Its relatively cheap for memebership, app and off line maps. We spend tens of thousands on vehicles , vans and often uneccessary add ons. A couple of hundred for a complete mapping system is cheap . I use several samsung tablets with app and have no trouble navigating with the app. You dont have to be especially technologically brilliant! I,m 71 and have no issues with using it. Brilliant bit of kit actually. Definitely get the off line maps. If using a tablet I,d also recommend getting one that takes a mobile phone sim card for online connections. (or a portable 5g wireless modem).

I agree. I look at the instructional videos and it seems like it's a race to get to the end.

Paul , you are probably right in your comments . David and Michelle are operating this system day N night and know it backwards .. comes second nature to them . Its a little harder for us novice .
I have found when I am trying to understand something a little bit complex for me ! I turned down the speed of the video one Notch so it comes across a little slower .
They should enlist "The Apprentice Adventurer "to do their tutorials
Lance has done a excellent tutorial on creating complex tracks on the ExplorOz Traveler app .
As already stated in a previous comment the more you use something the easier it becomes .
Cheers Nick

I use the Traveller app every day for remote area travel.
Find everything works in a logical way & is easy to use. Only used the help file once & found what I wanted quickly.
As a previous Hema user will never go back there.

I do not blame you for your trepidation.
There are a lot of YouTube videos on the ExploreOz Traveller App of how to use it and utilise its' many capabilities.
Initially before purchasing the Traveller App, I viewed the many YouTube Videos on my phone in conjunction with the Free online map viewer on my desktop.
It can be a bit convoluted, eventually I got comfortable with using the Traveller App and decided to purchase the Traveller App and ExploreOz membership.
See how that works, you might as I was pleasantly surprised.
